Virtual Pet Grief & Loss Support Group Considerations

Considerations while attending virtual support groups:

  • The same expectations apply during telehealth sessions as in-person sessions.

  • Be prepared to begin on time and do not use substances (including alcohol) before or during the session

  • Do not drive during the virtual group session

  • Plan to be alone or utilize headphones to protect group members' privacy

  • Wear appropriate clothing commensurate with attending in-person groups

  • Recording or taking a screenshot of the group members is prohibited

  • Both video and audio are encouraged while attending

  • Keep the video steady/on a flat surface and level with eye contact

  • Ensure that there is plenty of lighting in your environment and avoid back-lighting (i.e. lamps or bright windows behind you)

  • Smartphones, devices or computers can be placed on Do Not Disturb mode to minimize interruptions

  • Minimize distractions and multitasking during the virtual group

  • Close extra tabs and programs to improve video and audio quality

  • If possible, reduce noise around you and limit external interruptions

  • If the group is large, place your microphone on mute when not talking

  • Please expect to stay the entire group session
